Routine dental hygiene visits are the most reliable way to recognize potential problems. We utilize well researched techniques and give you expert guidance for better dental and oral health.

While at our office, we make sure that you receive the highest level of service and ensure that our dental work is of the highest quality. To ensure that you maintain great oral health, this level of quality needs to extend into your personal oral hygiene routine. Your teeth are not the only important part of your mouth. The bone support and gums tissue surrounding your teeth are just as important. If your gums bleed, appear red, or don't feel "smooth" it is a warning sign that something is not right. Don't wait if you are having symptoms as early intervention is the best course of action. Current studies have shown a correlation between systemic diseases and periodontal disease. So, having the correct daily habits of dental hygiene is not only good for you gums and teeth, but good for your overall health. By far the least expensive and easiest way to help prevent dental problems is basic brushing and flossing. We can help you establish a dental hygiene routine that will keep your teeth healthy and white.

Scaling and Root Planing:

If your hand started spontaneously bleeding, you would rush to the emergency room. So, if your gums are bleeding when you brush and floss, you should rush to Big City Dental!

If you have bacterial build-up below the gum-line, deep periodontal pockets, bleeding gums, or signs of bone loss, a routine cleaning is not possible. The infection must be treated with a more extensive procedure called periodontal scaling and root planning.

The objective for periodontal scaling and root planing is to remove dental plaque and calculus (tartar), which house bacteria that release toxins which cause inflammation to the gum tissue and surrounding bone.

Left untreated, this oral infection can worsen requiring the need for periodontal surgery. It can also cause bad breath, loose teeth and tooth loss. The inflammatory response in your mouth is similar to any other inflammatory response and there are correlations to your general health in regards to heart disease and diabetes.

With our new Anutra local anesthetic system, you will barely feel a thing from start to finish, so there is no reason to put off getting rid of this infection.
